About our presenter

Chip Ach is Executive Director of Software Development and Architect for the “More Disruption Please” initiative within athenahealth. For over 20 years, Chip has been disrupting things. He began his career as a Computing Assistant at the University of Chicago and founded a CLEC/ISP immediately after college, HarvardNet, where he built a nationwide optical network. After a few years at his next venture, Global Naps, where he engineered and operated multiple IP networks up and down the East Coast, he joined athenahealth, where he’s been at for the past 11 years. A pioneer in the now booming Electronic Health Records (EHR) industry, athenahealth delivers cloud-based services for EHR, practice management, and care coordination.

Topic: Software Development (and Beyond) as a Career Path

Chip will discuss his own career path from networking to systems administrator to software Developer and discuss why understanding software development is important for all IT professionals as well as how one can move into development. For those already in the software space, he will discuss how to scale development efforts at an enterprise level and how to maximize career success.
